New England SCBWI 2020

Finding Joy in the Journey

Friday, May 1, 2020 3:00 PM – Sunday, May 3, 2020 3:00 PM (EST)

April 30-May 2, 2021, Springfield, Massachusetts

Unfortunately, due to COVID19-related limitations imposed by the State of Massachusetts limiting the size of public gatherings over the next 8 weeks, we must cancel the New England SCBWI Spring Regional Conference on May 1-3, 2020 in Springfield, MA.

We explored many alternatives, including virtual learning, but feel that the best course of action is to move as much of our “Finding Joy in the Journey” programming and faculty as possible to #NESCBWI21, which will be April 30-May 2, 2021 in Springfield, MA.
At this time, we are still planning to offer as many of the individual critiques and consultations as we can as virtual sessions, for those who registered for Manuscript Critiques, Portfolio Critiques, Agent Quick Queries, Career Consultations and Social Media Consultations. Fees for these bonus activities will remain the same. Due to their group format, PAL Roundtable Critiques are canceled. If you registered for a critique or consultation, you will be receiving more information in a few weeks regarding the logistics of your virtual session. We ask for your patience while our critique team works out the many details necessary to make this happen!
Over the next 21 days, the Registrar Team will be automatically processing refunds for conference registration fees. PAL Roundtable Critique fees will also automatically be refunded. You do not need to contact the Registrar Team during this time. If, after 21 days, you do not see a credit for your conference fees, please contact
If you booked a hotel reservation, you must contact the hotel to cancel your reservation. Click here for hotel contact information. Keep in mind, most hotels ask that you cancel by 48 hrs prior to your reservation date to avoid being charged.
We appreciate everyone’s understanding and flexibility. We are as disappointed as you are in this turn of events, but we hope to celebrate our SCBWI community in person with you next year. In the meantime, be safe and stay well.
All our best,

Casey, Juliana & Kris

The Conference Bookstore will once again sell books from SCBWI members attending the conference. If you are faculty, you don’t need to register your books; the bookstore has already ordered them. If you are a non-faculty SCBWI member and wish to participate, simply complete the appropriate section in your online Conference registration, indicating that you wish to sell your book(s) at the conference. Click here to read the guidelines.

Make this the best conference ever! Smile and say hello to people you don’t know, they might be agents, editors, art directors, or future critique partners. Try attending a workshop you wouldn’t necessarily think of going to – you might be pleasantly surprised!

Blogging & Recording Policy

By registering for this conference, you acknowledge that audio taping, video taping and/or transmitting or aiding in any of the foregoing of any part of the conference (including, but not limited to, presentations, individual sessions and networking events) is prohibited. Additionally, the material in all handouts and presentations is copyrighted and may not be reprinted, blogged, written, orally transmitted, and/or reproduced without written permission of the copyright holder only. If you are found in violation of the above, SCBWI reserves the right to remove you from the conference and bar you from attending future conferences.

While we think it’s great when bloggers share thoughts about their overall experience, offer a personal anecdote, and/or briefly talk about something that resonated with them, it is equally important that bloggers not give away that which is not theirs to give. The fair use policy issued by SCBWI above refers to speakers’ rights, authors’ rights, and illustrators’ rights, under any circumstances, and it pertains to the content of our speakers’ talks, workshops, and/or handouts. This falls into the category of protecting intellectual property. Again, personal impressions, a quote that is cited, and/or a general overview would be considerate. However, it would be a breach of copyright law to give away a detailed report of a presenter’s material. Thank you in advance for taking this policy into account. Your professionalism is greatly appreciated.
