The White Mountains Retreat at Squam Lake is a small group retreat for writers of children's literature. Open to writers of any level, this retreat is especially beneficial to those ready to start down the road to publication. There will be opportunities for both professional and peer feedback, plus plenty of time to write, make new friends, and recharge creative batteries in a beautiful New Hampshire lakeside setting.

Every participant who registers by August 1st will receive a 25-minute one-on-one critique with an agent or editor of one PB manuscript or up to 20 pages/5,000 words of a longer manuscript.

Costs & Registration:

Registration opens Monday, May 1st, and closes August 1st.

Registration includes lodging and meals from Friday dinner through Sunday lunch.

Participants are invited to send 20 pages of their manuscript (up to 4,000 words) for critique by an agent or editor. Submissions are due by Monday, August 1st. There is no extra charge for this critique; however, due to time constraints, submissions sent after July 15th are not guaranteed a critique by an agent or editor.

2017 price for the weekend:    $565 for SCBWI members / $600 for non-members

Refund policy: Cancellations before July 15 will be refunded in full, less a $50 processing fee; cancellations July 15-31 will be refunded half, less a $50 processing fee; cancellations on or after August 1 will not be refunded. In no instance will any monies be refunded unless there is someone on the waiting list to take a registrant’s cancelled spot.
