Antiracism in KidLit: Practical strategies for authors and illustrators

In his book How To Be An Antiracist, Dr. Ibram X. Kendi asks readers to examine the policies and systems around us that sustain racial inequality and injustice and to make choices that help dismantle them. But as children’s book creators, what are those systems and what practical changes can we make?

In this panel, five authors, educators, and industry professionals will discuss how we can make changes in the children’s publishing industry. Each will present a specific “antiracist action” for creators to implement in their art and writing or in their professional interactions, and share how those actions can make for more inclusive books and more equitable spaces for all KidLit creators within SCBWI.

The presentation will be followed by a moderated Q&A.

Cost for members is $10 and for nonmembers is $20.

This event will not be recorded.

Panelists will be:
