March 10th ShopTalk with CARRIE FINISON

MARCH 10TH @ 7PM

GET STARTED IN CHILDREN’S MAGAZINE WRITING with AUTHOR CARRIE FINISON

Children’s magazines run the full range of reader ages from babies to
teens, and publish fiction, nonfiction, poetry, crafts, jokes and riddles,
puzzles, recipes, and more. Magazine writing is a fantastic way for
novice writers to get some experience, as well as for established writers
to sell material that doesn’t quite work in book format. In this session,
we’ll explore today’s magazine market, take an in-depth look at some
sample children’s magazines, talk about the submissions process, and
brainstorm ideas for your next magazine article.
Carrie Finison writes poetry, stories, and picture books for children. Her
fiction and poetry have appeared in Highlights, High Five,
Ladybug, and Babybug magazines. Her debut picture book, Dozens of
Doughnuts, will be published by Putnam in 2020. She lives outside of
Boston with her husband, son, and daughter (who all love doughnuts),
and two cats who allow her to work in their attic office.
