CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS for ART FROM THE HEART: Children’s Books by New England SCBWI Illustrators


Illustration Show at Wedeman Art Gallery at Lasell College, Auburndale, Massachusetts

NESCBWI would like to invite illustrators from New England to participate in the art exhibit, Art from
the Heart, taking place May 8th through 30th, 2020 at the Wedeman Art Gallery at Lasell College. The
art show will be juried by Brian Lies and Lita Judge and is open to published SCBWI members.

Brian Lies is the author and illustrator of more than two dozen books. His works include his 2019 Caldecott
Honor-winning picture book The Rough Patch, Got to Get to Bear’s!, and his NY Times bestselling bat
series, Bats at the Beach, Bats at the Library, Bats at the Ballgame, and Bats in the Band.

Lita Judge is the author and illustrator of 24 fiction and nonfiction books including, Mary’s Monster,
One Thousand Tracings, Born in the Wild, Red Sled, and Hoot and Peep. Her book, Flight School, has
recently been adapted into an off-Broadway musical which is currently showing in New York City and

We are excited to have Brian and Lita present a workshop (open to published and pre-published members) on the morning of May 30th! Details will be coming soon.

• PAL members can submit children’s book artwork from published or unpublished work.
• The pieces should be framed and ready to hang.
• Illustrators can sell their books at the event.
• Participants must be SCBWI members.

Please send a jpg of 1 or up to 3 images (5MB limit) by April 15, 2020 for consideration for this opportunity.
Include your name, title of piece, size, medium and contact info on the piece, using the following
file name format: lastname_firstname.jpg in the title. Email submissions to:

The art show will take place at the Wedeman Gallery at Lasell College from May 8, 2020
through May 30, 2020 with a reception on Saturday, May 30, from 2 to 4 pm, after which
the artwork can be picked up. Details with the drop off dates and times will follow.
